It was during the severe state and federal COVID lockdown mandates that our church started talking about replacing our front doors before winter returned or the supply chain stopped. Many churches were losing attendance and tithes while ours actually increased. By faith we got creative with worship, continued ministry without fear and set aside money for the doors.
Oldham actually gave us more than we requested and funded more than half of the investment. May God bless you for such generosity. As long as Jesus stands at the door and knocks, we will open them and commune with Him. Thank you for helping us build His church.
The congregation isn't hefty and you survive offering to offering, and blessing by blessing. There aren't monies to rely upon in an unexpected situation, especially with the church building itself. Our church roof was failing structurally and had become a hazard. We rallied as a congregation financially as well as reaching out to every visitor who had come our way over the years due to our location near the MAYO Clinic. One gentleman immediately got back to us and said you folks need OLCF! We immediately began the application journey.
Applying for this grant is not for the faint hearted, but it was worth every ounce of our time. The devil doesn't play fair and when we began our project our son had been diagnosed for the 3rd time with leukemia. Thank you OLCF for keeping our project alive. Our church has a small congregation and is located in the Delta of Arkansas, one of the poorest parts of the United States. Additionally, we had to get a second contractor because the initial person who agreed to replace the roof and whose quote we used to apply for the grant from Oldham fell thru and we paid 3x the grant amount to get the roof replaced.
