There are 6 caravan parks to choose from in Kununurra, we chose one on the lake, a Big4. Everything here has to be refrigerated because it goes off in the heat, it would be good to have a bigger fridge! There is a pool at this caravan park, nothing like as nice as the one at Lake Argyle, but Maddy was happy to go for a swim in the afternoon, there were some other children to play with which meant she could play happily while I relaxed on a lounger reading a book.
There is a fabulous looking 4WD water crossing called Ivanhoe Crossing about 12km out of Wyndham, from there we can pick up a 4WD track that leads to Wyndham the back way. Looks like it wouyld have been good fun too! We now needed to find another way on to the back track to Wyndham which meant driving back through Kununurra and then in another way, after a false start we eventually found it.
As we were driving along, we saw numerous cattle tracks coming from the bush and crossing the track.. We drove on further and found Perry Creek Farm and Tourist Park which was where we had planned to stop for lunch. It was very quiet though, only 3 or 4 people camping, looks good for bird watching though. Lunch was good, Maddy had her usual fish and chips and we had a vegetarian patties and salad. We then continued on towards Wyndham, back on to the main road then took the detour off to see the Prison Boab Tree.
After about 30 minutes of bumping along we eventually arrived at the Prison Boab Tree, it better we worth it! It was a huge tree with a hole in where they used to keep Aboriginals in when they were on their way to the prison in Wyndham. In Wyndham we stopped at the huge 20 metre long crocodile for a photo or two. This one was a bit like the one at Normanton, although not as good, made by school kids as part of a project, you can tell!
