Twelve years ago, springing out of my observations and concerns about the dearth of authentic, morally sound Bahamian men, I wrote an article entitled: "New Breed of Bahamian Men Needed".
In that article I expounded on two main points why Bahamian men seem to get away with their irresponsible and immoral behavior: As a society we have accepted consciously or unconsciously immorality among men as normal, and perhaps healthy, but consider females' immorality disgraceful and inappropriate.
We have equated good looks, kind deeds, a pleasant personality and popularity with spiritual maturity, or at least with wisdom and sobriety.
I still hold to these points. However, anecdotally I have seen a gradual increase of more and better Bahamian men. I have noticed that we do have many Bahamian men who are caring, sensitive, loving, compassionate and understanding. I want to praise these men. Too often we have been focusing on the wicked man while overlooking the positive, altruistic Bahamian man.
