An educator and researcher, Aakriti's interests lie in issues of anti-colonial education policy, anti-oppression, and solidarity building. Aakriti is an experienced researcher and has published on topics of community based research, neoliberalism, education policy, anti-colonialism, Black studies, youth participatory action research, international students education, critical global citizenship, and more. Over the past two decades, I have worked in education, community development, and social justice advocacy.
The foundation of my work is a human-centric approach that is driven by connection, empathy, compassion and empowering the vulnerable. My professional experience includes managing and creating community-based initiatives for marginalised women and girls, interacting with individuals and their stories through my work as an ESL instructor, and developing a variety of educational and training programs pertaining to inclusion and anti-racism.
Currently, I am working to share and grow my vision for a more socially just society within the higher education sector. My job is to elevate and empower educators and learners towards a more inclusive and equitable educational model through consultancy, facilitation, collaboration and training. It is my hope that my work will be innovative and ambitious, challenging exclusionary structures and reimagining them in a manner that makes them more inclusive. Her dissertation focuses on manifestations of Anti-Muslim Racism within law faced by Muslim children and youth at risk, how law has both been a vehicle for its implementation, and for its eradication, and more importantly, how law is sometimes a too-attractive, but inherently counterproductive, remedy.
