The student's disability once disclosed is confronted with negative attitudes and contempt-leading to her mental health discomfort with the educational system in general.
However, the narrative suggests an alternative approach to disability, that in this case, has led to the student's well-being and academic thriving. The paper seeks to find connections as per how the small bodies of the "other" can be a threat to the White and able-bodied preference of the educational system in a micro-scale, and the nation in the macro scale.
This paper offers a Critical Disability lens to seek an answer to why disabled students are perceived as a threat to the body of our schools; and a Critical Race Feminist theory to dismantle the "racialized othering" of Black and Brown bodies in our educational system. The concept of intersectionality has taken on heightened importance within Disability Studies in recent years.
