We naively attempt to visit the National Museum forgetting that it is Sunday, arguably the worst day to visit any tourist attraction in a land of over a billion, and you have to first get thru the lone security entrance for both Tiananmen Square and the Forbidden City. There are literally thousands of people in line. Resigned to coming back another day, we walk along ridiculously wide avenues and through a pedestrian shopping area filled with all the brands in existence and their copies.
We will have to plan ahead for the historic sites when we come back to Beijing at the end of our trip. Having read that travelling by train in China is nicer and easier than flying, we decide to take an overnight sleeper to Shanghai.
