While such reliefs were produced by Egyptians for the adornment of Egyptian temples walls lauding the pharaoh's military accomplishments, the reliefs portray quintessentially Canaanite practices and their experience during siege operations.

As such they are a valuable source for the study of Asiatic resistance and Asiatic practices during siege. The interpretation of such scenes has been dominated by Egyptologists whose interpretations are largely Egypto-centric, as most evident in their assumptions. On the one hand, I argue that Egyptian siege practices need not be regarded as inferior to those in other parts of the ancient Near East, as put forward most poignantly by Donald Redford.

On the other hand, I argue that Egyptian siege scenes portraying Asiatic resistance do not support the interpretation of Asiatics as weak and enfeebled when, in fact, several lines of evidence illustrate the contrary.
