To browse Academia. As Bangladesh is situated in the tropical region, therefore, the growth of vegetation on the archaeological monuments and their surroundings is quite common.
Their growth creates a series of threats for monuments including disfiguring the aesthetic beauty, cracking and detachment of masonry and ultimately the collapse of the monuments. This research aims to provide guidelines for the management of vegetation in archaeological sites of Bangladesh. We think every archaeological site should have a vegetation management plan.
It should be comprised with regular and seasonal cleaning of the monument and site, remedial and preventive measures against harmful vegetation on the monument, care for the olden and religiously valued trees around the monument, maintenance of the Garden if any and vigilance for the plants with the periphery of the monument. Vigilance is the most important aspect that could be greatly reduced the threats caused by plants. For effective vegetation management plan the responsible staffs is needed who are fully aware of the consequences of their delayed actions and the cost involved therein.
