For instance, women in Uniform were thought to be ambiguous because they were wearing the Trousers and out on the Streets doing work traditionally done by men. Yet the danger they faced each day in the Factories and even on their way to work during Night-time Bombing Raid s in the Blackout was huge. Each day carried the risk of sudden, accidental Explosions, causing disfigurement, blindness, loss of limbs or worse.
