We Norwegians walk a lot. And one of the things we love the most about our big cities is that they are incredibly walkable. They are so compact and full of experiences that there is no need to spend a lot of time on cramped trams, buses, and subways. Although you should bring your high heels, it's most important to pack your best walking shoes.
The route is yours to choose! With a nod to the WHO's perennial advice to walk 10 steps a day, Visit Norway invited five travel addicts from all over Europe to take part in its 10 steps project. Participants have been given a 10 step route, about 7 to 8 kilometres, in which to explore a Norwegian city, and have an awesome adventure in Norway. Our capital city, Oslo , was named the European Green Capital for its dedication to conserving natural areas and reducing pollution. Many central areas in Oslo are traffic-free, which makes the compact city even more walkable.
The sights, sounds and smells surround you when you're on foot. So lace up your most comfortable walking shoes and walk 10 steps in whatever direction tempts you the most! We have collected several excellent suggested routes you can follow to experience city highlights or help you find your own path through some of the biggest Norwegian cities. See our selection of trusted companies that work hard to make you happy all through your trip.
