This trip through Patagonia was so jam-packed with incredible experiences that I wrote nearly nothing down in my journal. Any downtime was spent bonding and making memories with the other exchange students. Because of this, I spent a lot of time catching up in my journal, translating mental scribbles into coherent thoughts. Sorting out this trip, deciding what to include, and trying to do this trip justice has been a daunting task. Nevertheless, I apologize for my tardiness. On November 17th, after spending most of the day in Corrientes with my host father and his mother celebrating their birthday, we crossed over the Parana River to Resistencia where we said our goodbyes.
Along with a handful of other exchange students, I boarded the south-bound, double-decker charter bus, completing the Rotary group. We were greeted by many semi-familiar faces from the orientation camp in September, which filled me with the expected excitement and apprehension that often comes when meeting new people. Before long, conversations were flowing and friendships were made. We continued making our way south, passing through Cordoba and picking up a small group of EduQuality exchange students.
We finally arrived at our first real stop of this Patagonian tour on November 19th. After we sorted out rooming situations and unloaded all our luggage, we were given some time to walk on the beach. The next day we departed early from Puerto Madryn and made our way to a small coastal town. After lunch, we were given a bit of free time to explore the ledges overlooking the gulf.
Though it was just a quick adventure, it stands out in my memory as an incredibly happy moment; maybe I was just high on fresh air. Immediately after, we went whale watching in the gulf, and it literally took my breath away. At one moment, I remember not knowing where to look because there were whales popping up on all sides of our boat, saltwater shooting up like fireworks.
