I would describe Jeju-do as a breath of fresh air. Even though I was living in the suburb or satellite city of Uijeong-bu just 10 minutes from North of Seoul , you would be surprised to learn how polluted the air is in the cities of South Korea in general. I went in May and during that year, some small economic conflict had occurred between South Korea and China, causing all flights to and from China to South Korea be suspended. Needless to say, many bookings were cancelled and holiday plans delayed. This played in so perfectly for my holiday as I got great accommodation by the beach for a good price, flights for cheap and a very, very relaxed holiday with zero waiting lines anywhere.

In , you had to take a flight to the island. The other option might be to take a bus down South and then a ferry, but that would take a full day! Flights from within Korea are rather cheap, and the cheapest flights being in the weekday. I went with Jeju Air. As mentioned, due to the lack of tourists, many hotels offered great discount specials.

I stayed about 10 minutes from the airport, right by the beach and down the road from the centre. It was also conveniently located near all the major bus routes and stops to take you around the island. The rooms were neat and clean, spacious bathroom, nice view, and great room and front desk service. They provide fresh towels daily, toothpaste, free water in the mini-fridge, shampoo, body wash soap and incense to keep the room smelling good.
